3rd Annual ‘KAYAK FOR KIDS” Fundraising Event

Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th September 2018

The first K4K event in 2016 saw, in spite of a hurricane delay and rough sea, eight intrepid kayakers circumnavigate the Islands of Bermuda, raising over $36,000 for SCARS. In 2017 a slightly larger group enjoyed calm, almost perfect conditions to repeat the event, which raised just under $60,000!!

We cannot thank all of our participants, donors, sponsors and supporters enough as this event is becoming one of the mainstays of  SCARS’ annual fundraising efforts and we hope to see it continue to grow & raise more money for this valuable charity in the future. This year we have introduced a Corporate Sponsorship category, with benefits including publicity, logo’s displayed on shirts, hats,  flags etc. – in this regard we wish to thank the above organizations that are generously sponsoring this year’s event:

There are several choices to physically participate in the event in 2018:

1.      Round the Island: Circumnavigating around the Island of Bermuda over two days – To be held on September 29th and 30th (in case of bad weather the make-up dates are October 6th and 7th)

2.      Western End: Kayak around the western end of Bermuda – To be held in the early afternoon of Sunday, September 30th (in case of bad weather, the make-up date is October 7th)

(There will be a Bar-B-Q for participants and their families/guests following the event on September 30th)

About the Event…

Round the Island K4K

Saturday and Sunday, the 29th and 30th of September 2018.  The aim is to complete a circumnavigation of the islands of Bermuda – approximately 40 miles. Please note, however, that in the event of bad weather that makes the circumnavigation a potential danger to the participants the alternative date is scheduled for October 6th and 7th.

The intent is to start at 7.00am on Saturday 29th from Somerset Long Bay Park, finishing the first day at Clearwater Beach. The direction of travel (e.g. clockwise or counter clockwise) will be determined closer to the time and determined based upon weather conditions. On Sunday, the 2nd leg will begin at 7:00 am, continuing the course, to finish back at Somerset Long Bay Park, hopefully around mid-afternoon. A place to leave kayaks/SUPs safely will be provided at Clearwater Beach at the end of day one.

To date we have in excess of 25  people who have signed up to take part in the main kayaking event this year.  We also have a group who will take part on their Stand Up Paddleboards.

West End K4K:

NEW THIS YEAR!!!! We have, for the first time, developed a shorter course around some of the islands of the West End of Bermuda which we hope will attract those that do not wish or are unable to take part in the full two day event. This will be held on Sunday 30th of September (starting around noon) with the expectation that participants would finish to coincide with the finish of the Round the Island K4K event.

A Bar-B-Q will be held on Sunday afternoon, September 30th, at Somerset Long Bay Park for all participants & their families / guests.

We are eager to have as many participants in both events as possible, so if you fancy taking part,  to help with the fundraising effort, please do not hesitate to contact any of the committee members detailed below. We are also looking for support crews with motor boats & or jet skis to help with both events.

The more participation and awareness we can bring to this worthy event, the better it will be for SCARS and the children of Bermuda.
